A patent is only as strong as its claims. Poorly drafted claims are too narrow to protect your invention commercially, or too broad to survive examination. At SCIPP Patents, we approach patent drafting as both a science and an art — combining deep technical understanding of your invention with the strategic legal expertise to define and capture your inventive contribution in the broadest, most defensible terms.
We believe that a patent specification is a strategic document — not merely a legal formality. Every specification we draft is structured to achieve three objectives: (1) provide a clear and complete disclosure of the invention that satisfies Indian Patent Office requirements; (2) support the broadest possible set of claims; and (3) anticipate and pre-empt examination objections.
A provisional application secures your priority date and gives you 12 months to file a complete application. It does not need to contain formal claims, but it must disclose the invention clearly enough to support the complete specification filed later. We draft provisionals that are strategically detailed — giving you maximum flexibility when drafting the complete application later.
The complete specification is the full patent document. It includes the title, field of invention, background, detailed description, drawings, abstract, and — most critically — the claims. We draft independent and dependent claims at multiple levels of breadth, creating a layered protection structure that maximises your chances of securing broad protection while providing fallback positions during examination.
A Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application provides an international filing date and allows you to defer national phase entry in multiple countries for up to 30 months. We manage the full PCT process — drafting the application, preparing the request form, filing with the Indian Receiving Office (RO/IN), and coordinating with foreign associates for national phase entry.
If you have already filed in India (or another country), we can file convention applications in foreign countries claiming priority from your Indian filing within 12 months — without going through PCT.
